Shrimp (Old things, New things)

I have always hated crabs, lobsters and shrimp.

When i was around 3 years old, after eating some crabs and shrimp, my whole body began to itch and swell, enough to send my mom into a panic. Since then, i have developed an aversion to them creatures. Everybody at home would get excited when we would have those for dinner, except me, of course. My dad would always have something set aside for me like chicken or pork. Most of the time i couldn't stand the mere smell of crabs or shrimps being cooked. In fact, i found it amusing that people would have their mouths watering at the smell of boiled crabs.

Galveston is an island and the seawall is lined with restaurants with seafood specialty. My sister once brought home some shrimp and cooked sinigang na hipon. She asked me to try it and knowing that my brother-in-law is ACLS certified (advanced cardiac life support), i did. I was waiting for the rashes to come out and i knew exactly where my Salbutamol puff was, just in case i needed it. But nothing happened. So i put more stuff on my plate. But i did not know how to take them out of their soft shells so i asked my sister to teach me. She taught me how to use my spoon to take off the head, slice off their walking legs and swimmerets and ease the meat out of the exoskeleton. And i'm 28 years old. sheesh.

Anyway, i ended up eating only around 6 shrimps that night. I didn't think it was worth all the effort to get them out of their shells. It was just not an easy task. And i believe i had more energy wasted than gained doing just that.

But now i just love shrimp. Shrimp shrimp shrimp shrimp. juicy juicy shrimp...yum yum yum yum!! i could eat shrimps all day. gimme some shrimps..no, gimme all of 'em shrimps.

now crabs and lobsters...that's another story. haven't tried them yet. and i would rather try them at home than in a restaurant simply because i don't know how to eat them.

wow. this is so 180 degrees. there was a time - in the blogging world, at least - that my love for crabs was of the same leve1 as your hatred for it.

pero mas masarap pa rin ang crabs sa pinas.

at huwag kang mag-date ng hipon, okay?
